The Marietta Community Foundation is committed to building a strong Foundation for our community and making life better for all citizens of Washington County and the surrounding communities. The Foundation seeks to respond to a wide variety of needs in the community.
The Foundation is funded by caring people and organizations who want to see our community become a better place to live and work ... now and in the future. The Foundation serves as a partner to community nonprofit organizations and seeks to strengthen them through grantmaking, endowment-building and other types of support.
The size and number of grant awards are directly related to the amount of money available each year. Money is generated by the annual income from the Foundation's unrestricted funds created through contributions made by caring individuals.
Grantmaking Objectives
The Marietta Community Foundation has established specific grantmaking objectives based on the characteristics of successful past projects and our goals for improving the community. We seek to support organizations and projects that:
- Build on local community strengths andassets.
- Stimulate support from other funding sources.
- Respond creatively to community problems.
- Serve a broad segment of the community.
- Expand access and opportunities for people from low-income and underserved communities.
- Address underlying causes rather than symptoms.
- Increase cooperation and coordination among program providers without duplicating services.
- Improve organization self-sufficiency and efficiency.
- Initiate efforts that will continue to grow in their effectiveness.
- Develop our sense of this community as a special place.
- Have strong board and staff or volunteer leadership.
- Involve a cross-section of people in project planning.
Marietta Community Foundation's Grant Guidelines
The Marietta Community Foundation welcomes grant requests from organizations that benefit the citizens of Washington County and the surrounding communities.
Grant Requests Must Include:
- A completed application form;
- an IRS letter of 501(C)3 determination;
- a narrative description (no more than five pages) that includes:
- Statement of purpose - What is the purpose of your project and what community issues does it address?
- Project's Objectives - Describe the expected impact of your project. Specify the activities undertaken as well as the timeline for implementation and completion.
- Target Population - Who will benefit from this project? Estimate the number of people to be served and the amount of services they will receive.
- Collaboration - Are you collaborating with other agencies? If so, please indicate which one(s) and describe the collaborative efforts. Include support letters if appropriate.
- FuturePlans - Is this (or will it become) an ongoing project? If “yes” please describe how you will support it inthe future.
- Evaluation - Describe how you will assess and measure your project's success.
- Background Information - Background material on your organization's history and operations, including:
- Alist of board members of applying agency
- A one-page project budget
- An organizational budget
- Key staff members involved in the project (describe their qualifications)
- Selectively chosen and pertinent publications
*If you have not been determined a tax-exempt organization under 501(C)3, please include a copy of your application for exempt status.
