1788 Legacy Society
On behalf of the trustees of the Washington County Historical Society, thank you for the Marietta Community Foundation's partial funding of the Fearing House exhibit.

Neil Allen
Executive Director

The 1788 Legacy Society was established by the Board of Governors in 2000 to recognize individuals who have planned to leave a gift to their community with the Marietta Community Foundation. A legacy contribution could range from a planned gift annuity with lifetime income and tax benefits to a simple bequest in a will.
The mission of the 1788 Legacy Society is to endow the future of the Marietta area by preserving its unique culture, history, and traditions. Further, the Society wishes to honor those who have, and those who plan through bequests, to support this future.
The Foundation acknowledges, thanks and celebrates the following individuals who have planned a legacy to their community through gifts that will eventually come to the Foundation for the benefit of others:

The Society meets annually to recognize those donors who wish togive something back to the community by including the Marietta Community Foundation in their estate planning.

The member's names will be prominently displayed in various locations throughout Marietta, inspiring others to follow their splendid and generous examples.

Indeed, the Marietta Community Foundation would not exist today were it not for the foresight of the late Carl L. and Elizabeth Broughton, William and Mary Carolyn McCoy Mildren, Lillian Strecker Smith, Jane McCoy Peterson, Myra P. Berg and countless others.

If you have enjoyed the amenities of this lovely, historic city; if you have cherished the friends who live alongside; if you have gazed out over this peaceful and beautiful community of green hills, valleys and graceful rivers flowing by, we ask that you consider including the Marietta Community Foundation in your estate planning.
Certainly everyone must have a will for one’s family’s sake. And a charitable bequest in that will has various advantages, not the least of which are certain tax benefits.

You can designate a gift of cash, appreciated securities, real estate - virtually any property you own - or you can set up a life-income plan that will provide income to you and/or your beneficiaries. It all depends upon your objectives.
Yet the ultimate reality is “purse strings are tied to heartstrings.” One must first wish to help others. One must wish to benefit those yet to abide in this community, just as those who came before have so thoughtfully and generously done for us.

And, of course, you may designate exactly how you wish your bequest be used - to aid education, reach out to youth, support senior programs, help the environment or animals, establish student scholarships or support any charitable organization or specific charitable interest you have. Or, because we do not know what the future needs of the community may be, you may wish to leave your bequest unrestricted. The Board of Governors always will see to it your requests are strictly carried out.

You may also be assured your gift will be prudently managed and invested by Marietta Community Foundation so it will grow year after year and become worth more in the future than you might have ever imagined.
We invite you to add your legacy to those friends of the Marietta Community Foundation who share a vision of a brighter tomorrow.
