The Marietta Community Foundation and the Citizens Armory Preservation Society are pleased to announce the creation of a new designated fund dedicated to providing funds to renovate the Marietta Armory.
"The Armory, Ohio's oldest twin winged structure is a solid building that has seen many community activities over the years and holds many fond memories for local residents" said Mike McCarthy, President of the society. "It has great potential to serve us into the future as we seek new uses and users."
Plans are underway to use the initial funds generated to completely reconstruct the entire roof structure to prevent further damage to the interior of the building. A major project in itself, this will be the beginning of a series of renovations that will put the building back in operation for its future use as a Community Center.
Donors may make contributions to the Marietta Community Foundation at P.O. Box 77 in care of the CAPS fund, or through any board member of CAPS. Donations are tax deductible and will be directed to the restoration of the Armory.
"It's going to take a lot of work and the cooperation of many funding sources to complete this project, but it is well worth doing to preserve one of Marietta's finest landmarks," said McCarthy. CAPS board members include Bob Newman, V.P., Betty Martin, Treasurer; Joan Pritchard, Secretary and McCarthy, President.
The Marietta Community Foundation administers over 100 funds for local philanthropic efforts. It has distributed nearly $7 million since its creation in 1974 and has current assets just over $7 million.
