Foundation Announces Final Grants for 2005

Earlier today the Marietta Community Foundation announced $29,958. in descretionary grants during its third and final cycle of 2005.

Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross $1,500 toward the purchase of a Disaster Service Trailer, laptop and radios.

Ely Chapman Education Foundation $3,125 to enhance stage with lighting and audio equipment.

EVE, Inc. $2,100 matching funds to secure transportation grant for victims of abuse.

O'Neill Senior Center $7,233 matching grant to secure new van for client transportation.

The Betsey Mills Club $1,000. for pool scholarships for area swimmers.

The Community Action Program $5,000. to offset gasoline costs to maintain Senior Nutrition Program.

Beverly Volunteer Fire Department $4,000. toward emergency backup generator at fire department.

Fairfield Township $2,000. project to protect picnic shelter at community park.

Mid-Ohio Valley Players $4,000. toward roof repair to protect building.

"We hope that others in the community will follow the lead of the Marietta Community Foundation and make gifts of their own to these and other important charities," says Jack Moberg, President & CEO of the Marietta Community Foundation.  "Times are tough and your generosity might be the only thing that makes this Christmas merry for many families."

Thanks to changes in the tax law this year, donors are able to deduct up to 100% of charitable contributions given after August 28, 2005.  This change was in response to the hurricane damage done this season.  Consult with your finance advisor for particulars if this applies to your situation.

"By investing the community's contributions wisely, the Marietta Community Foundation was able to distribute over $505,000. to local charities and families in need during this past year," says Moberg.
