Marietta Community Foundation announces Second Cycle 2009 Grant awards!

MARIETTA, OH, August 3, 2009---Nine grants totaling more than $30,000 to area organizations from The Marietta Community Foundation were announced today by Mark Schwendeman, foundation Board Chairman.
These awards were approved during the second of three grant cycles the Foundation holds each year. The deadline for third-cycle grant proposals is October 7, and grant request application forms are available from the Foundation offices located at 121 Putnam Street, or on our website at www.mcfohio.org.
“One of the more significant grants approved by our Allocations Committee,” Schwendeman added, “was to the Washington State Community College Foundation for $4,000 to fund vouchers for textbooks to be distributed to students with financial need. We were pleased to be able to grant the full amount requested.”
Gail Reynolds, Washington State Community Foundation Executive Director, wrote: “The Washington State Community College Foundation is truly grateful for the support of the Marietta Community Foundation in helping us help our students continue their educations during particularly trying financial times. Thank you very, very much!”
Other grants awarded:
$5,000 to the Autism Center of Southeastern Ohio to provide respite to families in Washington County who have a child with Autism or a developmental delay. Respite will be provided to the family and crucial skills, such as social integration, will be developed while trained staff work with the child;
$3,850 to the House of Hope for kitchen equipment and a vacuum cleaner which will allow members to develop basic housekeeping skills;
$2,500 to the Veterans of Foreign Wars #5108 to upgrade safety issues within its building, including exit and emergency lights, panic bar closures on doors and handrails;
$6,000 to the Washington County Women’s Home to replace electrical wiring making the home safe for residents and to meet energy demands of a multiple dwelling in the 21st Century;
$1,700 to the Washington County Association for Retarded Citizens to help fund a field trip to COSI;
$2,500 to Marietta Township to support the installation of a walking track behind the former Reno Elementary School (now the Marietta Township Recreation Center);
$2,500 to the Fountain Foundation for creating a patio and pavilion area at the Washington Neighborhood Park adjacent to Washington Elementary School;
$2,500 to Fairfield Township to install a protective and decorative fence for one of the Township’s most visible and visited cemeteries.
